IPL is starting tomorrow. And I’m not gonna lie, it makes the evenings more fun.
But this brings us to the question.
Is sports an entertainment or a distraction to keep the proletariats engaged and away from real things?
Orwell seemed to believe in the latter. While modern sports is not as violent as Rome’s gladiator shows in the Colosseum, it still has the same philosophy—keeping the masses distracted.
Maybe that’s the agenda. But does it change even if the masses are aware of it?
Perhaps distraction is needed to make life more bearable.
